Just a year after FARDC soldiers opened fire on unarmed civilians including women and children inside the Kanyabayonga transit camp, a high level delegation from the EU, SADC, CIGLR and numerous reporters visited the camp, with the same message that led to the shooting in the first place. In a brief meeting they held with the residents of the camp they encouraged to go back to Rwanda to which the residents responded the same way they did, ever since those of the group that were freedom fighters agreed to lay down their weapons and ask for a peaceful settlement from the Government of Rwanda.

The meeting was attended by most of the residents including survivors of the massacre a year ago. It is clear that unless the International community changes the attitude towards Rwandan refugees in DRC and presses for meaning a political settlement, the situation will never be resolved.
