It has been more than two months since FARDC along with elements from the Rwandese Defense Forces started attacking Congolese Hutu populations, forcing them to flee their homes and leaving their belongings behind especially, their agricultural products. On Dec 24, FARDC attacked the locality of BUSTIMURE in the Walikale area, burning down houses belonging to Congolese hutu populations, while telling them to leave Congo since according to FARDC they are Rwandese.
Under normal circumstances this would be considered ethnic cleansing, but since most human rights organizations have refused to even acknowledge that anything is happening in Eastern Congo, it is hard to imagine in other outcome except a humanitarian disaster. We are left to wonder, why even the UN. which is present in the region through MONUSCO and other agencies, does not condemn these barbaric acts, leaving the population to flee in all directions with no one to come to their rescue. It is important that African Countries that are participating in MONUSCO play an important role in the protection of civilians.
